What Is Keyword Research?

Keyword research is the process of finding the words and questions people type into search engines around a topic, then judging which of them are worth targeting given their volume, their intent and how contested they are.

Why it matters

It decides what you write and, for link building, which pages deserve links at all. Pointing an expensive placement at a page nobody searches for is the most common way to waste a link budget.

Example

Research shows "guest post pricing" gets steady monthly searches while an internal favourite like "placement rate card" gets almost none, so the page gets written around the first.

Common misconception

That volume is the order of importance. A low-volume query with clear buying intent is usually worth more than a high-volume informational one, and tool volumes are modelled estimates that lump variants together rather than counts of real searches.
