What Is a Content Gap?
Why it matters
Gap analysis is the cheapest way to build a content plan, and it doubles as link planning: the pages you are missing are often the ones that would attract links, and the ones your existing pages have nowhere useful to link to.
Example
Three competitors all rank for questions about import duty in your product category and your site has nothing on it. That is a gap, and the fix is one page rather than a rewrite of ten.
Common misconception
That every gap is worth filling. Some queries belong to a different audience, some are held by formats you cannot match, and some exist because the competitor guessed wrong. Filter by intent and by whether you can genuinely be the best answer before committing.
