What Is Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?
Search engine optimization (SEO) is the work of making a website easier for search engines to crawl, understand and rank, and more useful to the people who arrive from it. It spans technical health, on-page content and off-site signals such as links.
Why it matters
Unpaid search is the channel most guest posting budgets are ultimately aimed at, so knowing which part of SEO a placement actually touches — links, and sometimes referral traffic — keeps expectations honest about what any single order can do.
Example
A site fixes its slowest pages, rewrites a thin category page around what searchers actually want, then earns links to it. All three are SEO; only the last is link building.
Common misconception
That SEO is a project you finish. Competitors keep publishing, search systems change several times a year, and pages decay; the sites that hold their results treat it as maintenance rather than as a launch task.
