What Is Domain Authority (DA)?

Domain Authority (DA) is a score from 1 to 100, created by Moz, that predicts how well a whole domain is likely to rank in search results. It is calculated mainly from that domain's link profile.

Why it matters

DA is the most widely quoted shorthand for "how strong is this site", so almost every guest post listing and outreach pitch cites it. Knowing what it is — and is not — stops you overpaying for a number.

Example

A regional news site with links from dozens of established publishers might show DA 55, while a six-month-old blog with a handful of links shows DA 8. Both can be worth buying from; the price should differ.

Common misconception

That DA is a Google metric or a ranking factor. It is a third-party prediction built by Moz from its own crawl of the web, and Google does not see it or use it. The scale is also logarithmic, so moving from DA 20 to 30 is far easier than 60 to 70, and the score can be inflated by links that bring no audience at all.
