1.) We’re excited to be speaking today with acclaimed Americana-pop artist and gifted singer and songwriter Ian Fisher; greetings and salutations Ian and welcome to Vents Magazine! Before we meander down the Q&A musical pathway, how is the latter part of 2024 treating you and yours?

It’s lovely talking to you! Thanks for shining a light on what I’m doing. The end of 2024 for me seems to be much the same as it is for so many friends and the world at large. That is to say, full of changes, hopes, and fears. I’m currently based in Toronto and am teetering on the edge of a decision about where to go next. All the while, in the middle of a crowdfunding campaign to finish my new record (Kickstarter Project: “Help make Ian Fisher’s new album “Go Gentle”!”) and booking a bunch of shows for the end of this year and early next year. On top of that, hoping that peace abroad and democracy at home prevails. As we all know, it’s a lot these days.

2.) Major kudos and accolades on your freshly-minted new singles “The Face of Losing” and “Independence Day”! Starting at the very top, can you explain to our ever-inquisitive reading audience the origins of these very emotional and beautiful tunes?

My mom passed away last spring after fighting cancer for over 26 years. I had no intention of writing about that loss or dealing with my grief in a public way, but these songs kept pushing their way out of me and I slowly found that sharing them was not only cathartic for me, but sometimes had a similar effect on others who had lost someone or something they’d loved.

3.) Who did the producing honors on “Independence Day” and “The Face of Losing” and what did the collaboration between artist and producer look like while in the studio fashioning and shaping all this new music?
