The government of India’s flagship initiative, Startup India, aims to build a strong ecosystem that supports the formation of new businesses, resulting in long-term economic growth and large-scale job creation. The government thinks that this programme would enable enterprises to flourish via innovation and design.
Since the initiative’s introduction on January 16, 2016, a number of projects have been launched to promote the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s goal of India being a country of job creators rather than job seekers.
With the Startup India initiative recognising enterprises and many entrepreneurs taking advantage of the benefits of starting a business in India, these programmes have propelled the startup culture.

The Indian government is working hard to bring the Startup India project’s ambition to life. The Startup India initiative, which has inspired a surge of entrepreneurial activity across the country, has made substantial progress.

The Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) is in charge of working with other government agencies to implement the Startup India programme. The Startup India programmes are led by five government departments: the Department of Science and Technology (DST), the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), the Ministry of Labour and Employment, and the Ministry of Finance.

The Startup India Action Plan has achieved great progress since its beginning in January 2016. The progress made on the 19 Action Points of the Startup India Action Plan is detailed in Annexure-I.

In addition to the Startup India Action Plan, several other measures have been launched to encourage the overall growth of the startup movement in India. The progress gained so far under such efforts is summarised in Annexure-II.

The Startup India website, www.startupindia.gov.in, is a good place to go if you need more information or clarity on the programme.
